FROM THE REGISTRAR

Dear Members,

You may have noticed that we have changed our applications to include embryo transfer information. Unfortunately this has caused quite a few of you to omit the information of where the mare was kept during her pregnancy on the New Mexico Bred Application (form #100).

There are three large information boxes on the front of the application. The first and second boxes must be filled out in order for the foal to be registered. The third box is only to be filled out if the foal was the result of an embryo transfer.

If you have a recipient mare, she needs to be registered in the broodmare registry by September 1st of the breeding year as well as the donor mare. If the recipient mare does not have registration papers, we require four photos. The entire flushing and transfer procedure must take place in New Mexico. All donor and recipient mares must remain in the State of New Mexico the entire pregnancy and the baby(s) must be born in New Mexico.

If you have used Shipped Semen, we need to know the location of where the breeding took place. Not where the Stallion stands.

We are still receiving old applications through the mail. As long as the foal is not the result of an embryo transfer it is fine to use the old applications, but remember the fees have gone up. The new applications follow this page so feel free to make as many copies as you need or call our office and we will be happy to mail them to you.

Because of allegations concerning the validity of a horse and / or horses meeting all the requirements for registration as a New Mexico Bred, the 1992 Board of Trustees instructed this office to require random affidavits from applicants in order to maintain registration accuracy.

Therefore, on occasion, a member may be asked to provide witnessed and / or notarized affidavits confirming the accuracy of an application prior to registry. Because of the high fluctuation in registrations we have found a need to send affidavits more often.

As we are a self-regulatory association, it becomes the responsibility of all of us to ensure the accuracy of NM Breds being registered as such.

The 1992 Board of Trustees also concluded that a registered New Mexico Stallion cannot stand in two states within the same breeding season.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call our office at (505) 262-0224. We will be happy to assist you.
