A Look at the New Mexico-Breds Entered in the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale

Of the 432 Quarter Horse yearlings entered in this weekend’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, 21 are registered New Mexico-breds.

Here’s a closer look at the New Mexico-bred yearlings in the sale, which will take place September 1-3.

HEZAJESSFORSURE (Hip No. 33; Jesse James Jr-Shez Classy Now by Now I Know) -- Consigned by Bob and Sissie McClure, this colt is a half brother to Latest Theory, the runner-up in the 2014 Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge. His dam won three stakes in New Mexico from 2003-07, including the 870-yard New Mexico Horsemen’s Association Handicap (RG2) at SunRay Park and 870-yard John Augustine Stakes (RG3) at Albuquerque Downs in ’06.

BROOKS BLACK MAGIC (Hip No. 41; Winners Version-Brooks Midnight by Brookstone Bay) -- Consigned by Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent, this colt is a full brother to Midnight Version, the third-place finisher in last year’s Dixie Downs Futurity in Utah. His winning dam was a finalist in the ‘09 All American (G1) and Rainbow (G1) futurities and is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner Anneopen and Annie Eye Over, the dam of three-time Grade 1 winner Llano Teller.

LETHAL MOON FORCE (Hip No. 43; First Moonflash-One Lethal Blaze by Chicks A Blazin) -- Consigned by Vista Equine Colorado LLC, agent, this filly is the first foal produced by 2014 Sunburst Stakes (R) winner One Lethal Blaze. Her second dam, the First Down Dash mare Shez Lethal, won the ’99 AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship (G1) at Los Alamitos.

TOAST TO DADDY (Hip No. 62; Big Daddy Cartel-Miss Totts by Mr Jess Perry) -- Consigned by MJ Farms, agent, this gray gelding is the first foal produced by his unraced dam. His second dam, the graded stakes winning Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane, produced five stakes winners, all of whom are half siblings to Miss Totts, including 2009 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Alice K White and Grade 1-winner and one-time 440-yard world-record holder Kendall Jackson.

CORONA MOONFLASH (Hip No. 91; First Moonflash-Versions Runnninggal by Winners Version) -- Consigned by Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent, this colt is the first foal produced by his unraced dam. His second dam, the Brookstone Bay mare Runnning Brook Gal, won two Grade 1 stakes in 2009, including the 440-yard All American Futurity (G1), and was that season’s AQHA champion 2-year-old.

JESS ONE WISH (Hip No. 101; Jesse James Jr-Wish You Had One To by Stel Corona) -- Consigned by MJ Farms, agent, this filly is among the first foals produced by her winning and multiple graded stakes placed dam. Her second dam, the winning Devon Lane (TB) mare Devons Wish, produced 2014 Zia Futurity (RG1) winner Girlonthego, a half sister to Wish You Had One To.

JESS SHAKER RUNAWAY (Hip No. 113; Jess A Chicks-Runaway Shaker by Runaway Winner) -- Consigned by Double LL Farms, agent, this colt is a half brother to six-time graded stakes winner Blazin N Shakin and ’05 New Mexico Cup Derby (R) winner Mr Runaway Shaker. His second dam, the winning and stakes-placed Raise Your Glass (TB) mare Shaken Not Stirred, produced Grade 2 winner Reckless Dash and stakes winner Shake The Cash.

J R BORDEAUX (Hip No. 115; Jesse James Jr-Bridgette Bordeaux by Blushing Bug) -- Consigned by MJ Farms, agent, this gelding is out of Bridgette Bordeaux, a winning mare who ran second in the 2005 New Mexico State Fair Breeders’ Derby (RG3) at Albuquerque Downs. He is a full brother to 2014 New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity (RG3) winner Jess Bordeaux. His second dam, the winning and graded stakes placed Dash Ta Fame mare Sandys Fame, foaled graded stakes winner Sandys Jesse, a half sister to Bridgette Bordeaux.

MIDNITE BLU (Hip No. 168; First Moonflash-The Blues Girl by Corona Cartel) -- Consigned by Double LL Farms, agent, this colt is out of the stakes-winning Corona Cartel mare The Blues Girl and is a half brother to Chickie Blu, the third-place finisher in the 2010 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3) at Albuquerque Downs. His second dam, the winning and Grade 1-placed Sixarun mare Run The Dash, was the 2007 AQHA broodmare of the year and foaled ’07 world champion Blues Girl Too, a full sister to The Blues Girl.

MOONFLASH CAT (Hip No. 215; First Moonflash-Domeinitchy [TB] by Dome [TB]) -- Consigned by Lazy A Farm, this colt is a half brother to 2012 Zia Futurity (RG1) winner Gonna Cha Cha and a full to Flashin Honey Bee, the runner-up in the ’13 By By JJ Stakes (R). His second dam, the winning Grand Slam (TB) mare Perfect Present (TB), is a half sister to four stakes winners, including Grade 3 winners Astrology (TB) and Lunarpal (TB).

SANNGRIA (Hip No. 225A; Big Daddy Cartel-Alice K White by First Down Dash) -- Consigned by MJ Farms, this gray filly is out of 2009 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly and is a half sister to ’15 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Astica. Her second dam, the graded stakes winning Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane, foaled five stakes winners, including Grade 1 winner and one-time 440-yard world-record holder Kendall Jackson.

JESSFLASHMETHEMONEY (Hip No. 251; First Moonflash-Jessiana by Jesse James Jr) -- Consigned by Double LL Farms, agent for Thunderstruck Racing, this colt is the first foal produced by his winning dam, who ran second in the 2013 Lou Wooten/Sydney Valentini Handicap (RG2) at Sunland Park. His second dam, the Kipper Kelly (TB) mare Oriana’s Magic (TB), finished third in the ’04 Cactus Flower Handicap at Turf Paradise.

KUNDE (Hip No. 271; Jesse James Jr-Tangled Vines by Dash Ta Fame) -- Consigned by MJ Farms, agent, this colt is a full brother to 2012 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) winner Rex Hill, as well as to the graded stakes placed geldings Untangled Vines and Jameson Jr. His second dam, the graded stakes winning Streakin Dash mare Dashin Sandy, foaled graded stakes winner Champagne Lane, the dam of champion Alice K White.

DADDYS WINE (Hip No. 279; Big Daddy Cartel-Fine Wines by First Down Dash) -- Consigned by MJ Farms, agent, this colt is out of Fine Wines, a finalist in the 2003 La Primera del Ano Derby (G2) at Los Alamitos. He is a half brother to Grade 1 winner Time For Wine and Grade 3 winner Onemoreglassofwine, the dam of stakes winner One Sweet Merlot. His second dam, the Streakin Dash mare Dashin Sandy, won the ’92 Diamond Classic Futurity (RG1) and is the dam of graded stakes winner and AQHA champion producer Champagne Lane.

BIG N WILD (Hip No. 288; Big Daddy Cartel-Wild Vines by The Signature) -- Consigned by MJ Farms, agent, this gelding is a half brother to Wild Six, the winner of the 2007 Rainbow (G1) and West Texas (G1) futurities and dam of stakes winner Jess Wild For You and 2014 Kindergarten Futurity (G2) runner-up Wild Sixes Cartel. His winning dam was a finalist in the ’03 Albuquerque Spring Derby (G3) and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Arbor Mist.

FLASHIN MOOLAH (Hip No. 304; First Moonflash-Chicks Chamisa by Chicks A Blazin) -- Consigned by Double LL Farms, agent, this colt is a half brother to three graded stakes winners, including Sixy Chamisa, the winner of the 2009 New Mexico Cup (RG2) and New Mexico Breeders’ (RG2) futurities, and two-time graded stakes winner Rime Has A Chick. His second dam, the Sparkling Moolah mare Moolahs Parade, foaled graded stakes winners Nathans Rocket and Moolahs Crown.

J J SHOOT THE MOON (Hip No. 319; First Moonflash-Final Form by Rare Form) -- Consigned by Double LL Farms, agent, this colt is out of Final Form, an unraced daughter of 1992 AQHA champion 3-year-old colt Rare Form and a half sister to ’93 champion 3-year-old gelding Four Forty Blast, 1992 Golden State Derby (G1) winner Holland Ease, and the Grade 1-placed Las Alamitos, the dam of Grade 1-winner Ragazzo, Grade 2-winner Giorgino, and stakes-winner Features Lucky Charm.

CHIEF MOONFLASH (Hip No. 352; First Moonflash-Diamonds N Rainbows by Rabbits Rainbow) -- Consigned by Lazy A Farm, this colt is out of the winning and graded stakes placed Rabbits Rainbow mare Diamonds N Rainbows, and he is a full brother to two stakes winners, including 2014 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Foxy Moonflash. His second dam, the Coup de Kas (TB) mare Shines Likea Diamond, won the ’98 KHEY/Y96 Handicap at Sunland Park, and she produced Grade 3 winner Rainbows N Diamonds, a full sister to Diamonds N Rainbows.

HEZA WINNERS KING (Hip No. 400; Winners Version-Annies Form by Rare Form) -- Consigned by Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent, this colt is a half brother to 2009 All American (G1) and Rainbow (G1) futurity finalist Brooks Rainbow, the dam of the stakes-placed filly Midnight Version. A total of 131 New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses has been entered in Sunday’s New Mexico Cup races at Zia Park. Purses for the 12 races -- eight for Thoroughbreds and four for Quarter Horses -- will exceed $2 million, once again making New Mexico Cup day the richest state- or province-bred day of racing in North America.
