A Passion For Flashn Tops New Mexico Cup Futurity Qualifiers
RSS Feeds Sunday, October 15, 2017
RC Racing LLC’s A Passion For Flashn won the second of seven New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) trials at Zia Park on Saturday, and the First Moonflash colt is the fastest qualifier to the October 29, $325,000-est. final.

Ridden by Manuel Gutierrez for trainer Martin Orona Sr. and sent to post as the 1-5 favorite A Passion For Flashn defeated seventh-fastest qualifier Daddys Copy by one length in :19.979 for 400 yards. The brown son of First Moonflash was winning for the third time in eight outs and increasing his earnings to $53,492.

A Passion For Flashn was bred by JMH Racing LLC, and the colt was a $6,500 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. A Passion For Flashn is the first starter produced by the winning Streakin Sixes mare Subtly Sixy, and he was coming off of a summer campaign during which he qualified to the Zia Futurity (RG1) and Mountain Top Futurity (RG3).

Siximoons, the second-fastest qualifier, won the third heat by three-quarters of a length in :19.981. Prepped by Wes Giles and ridden by Salvador Martinez for owners Jerry Bailey and Tres Mesa Horses, the gelded son of First Moonflash was coming off of a Ruidoso Downs season during which he ran third in the 400-yard, $50,000 By By JJ Stakes (R) on July 29.

Siximoons was bred by Mike Abraham and was a $10,000 purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. The gelding has won one of five outs and has banked $11,012, and he is out of the winning and stakes-placed Jumpn mare Stevie Six.
