Field Set for Colts and Geldings Division of Copper Top Futurity
RSS Feeds Sunday, March 22, 2015

Seasalt N Vinegar, a gelding by the Valid Appeal stallion Seacliff owned and trained by Barbara Brown, is one of 10 New Mexico-bred colts and geldings who have qualified to the colts and geldings division of the April 13, $55,000-added Copper Top Futurity (R) at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Jimmy Ray Coates and sent to post at odds of 12-1, Seasalt N Vinegar rallied to win the first of two 4 1/2-furlong trials in :52.13 on Saturday. The gelding was making his career debut, and his margin of victory was one length from first-time starter and even-money favorite Casey Jones Who.

Seasalt N Vinegar was bred by Brian K. Bentley and Patsy Handcock. The gelding is one of two winners from as many starters produced by Salty Air, a winning 10-year-old daughter of the Deputy Minister stallion Salt Lake.

Funwayhome won the second trial by a neck from Naevussquall, who was disqualified from second and placed third behind I’ll Take The Heat. Bred by Steve Prather of Hobbs, New Mexico, Funwayhome races for Solitaire Stable and Skyler Kelley from the barn of trainer Henry Dominguez.

The first five finishers from each heat made the final. The complete list of qualifiers appears in alphabetical order below. Note that there were no trials held for the $55,000-added fillies division of the Copper Top Futurity, which also will be run on April 13.
