Field Set for Dessie and Fern Sawyer Futurity
RSS Feeds Saturday, September 07, 2013

The field has been set for the September 22, $35,000-added Dessie & Fern Sawyer Futurity (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-old fillies at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Landrys Girl, a homebred filly by Lesters Boy racing for Adrian Lee Esquibel, led at every call en route to a two-length win in the first of two trials on Saturday. Ridden by J. Martin Bourdieu for trainer Ernest Edgar, Landrys Girl made her 6-furlong trip in 1:12.38.

Landrys Girl was coming off of a 5 1/4-length victory against state-bred maiden company at Albuquerque on August 18. The filly has earned $10,560 from three starts.

Making her career debut in the second trial, Mike Abraham’s Storm With Flair rallied for a neck victory in 1:12.39. The homebred daughter of the Storm Cat stallion Tompest was ridden by Jimmy Ray Coates for trainer Bart Hone.

Storm With Flair’s dam, the 10-year-old Gone West mare Western Flair, has produced three winners from as many starters.
