Field Set for Rio Grande Senor Futurity
RSS Feeds Saturday, August 13, 2016
The field for the September 5, $152,974 Rio Grande Senor Futurity has been set after three trials were contested at Ruidoso Downs on Saturday.

Sent to post as the 1-20 favorite, R.D. Hubbard’s Another Brother won the first heat by four lengths in wire-to-wire fashion. Glen Murphy rode the homebred Attila’s Storm gelding for trainer Todd Fincher.

Another Brother is out of the Dome mare Hang Glide and is a full brother to multiple stakes winners Thermal and Reaper. The runner-up in the July 31, 5-furlong Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity (R), the gelding has earned $41,434 from four starts.

Making his career debut in the third trial, Maurcenia Cross’ Go Gotta Go scored a 10 1/2-length victory over 3-10 favorite Storming Back. Ridden by Francisco Giles for trainer Gary Cross, the homebred gelding is one of three winners from as many starters produced by Macann’s Promise, a winning and stakes-placed 15-year-old daughter of Tale Of The Cat. Go Gotta Go is a half brother to the multiple stakes placed Streaks Bro.

Thunder Dome won the third heat by 4 1/4 lengths while making his first start since April 30. The chestnut son of Dome was saddled by Dallas Barton and ridden by Ricardo Jaime for owners W.D. Carson Sr., M.H. Carson, and Leach Racing LLC.

Thunder Dome is one of five winners from seven starters produced by Lauren Lynn, a 16-year-old winning daughter of Hadif who ran second in the 2003 Valor Farms Stakes (R) at Lone Star Park and Yellow Rose Stakes (R) at Sam Houston Race Park. The gelding is a half brother to 2010 Sierra Starlet Handicap (R) winner If I Had A Bull.

The top three finishers from Saturday’s three trials made the Rio Grande Senor Futurity final and will be joined by one of the fourth-place finishers, who will be determined in a draw. The fourth-place finishers were T’s Tuf Son, Ira Hayes, and Fire Squall.
