A total of 252 2-year-olds – including eight New Mexico-breds – have been entered in Thursday's 440-yard All American Futurity (G1) trials at Ruidoso Downs.

Post time for the first of 26 trials is 9 a.m. (MDT). The last trial has a scheduled approximate post time of 6:35 p.m.

The eight New Mexico-breds vying for a starting berth in the All American Futurity final on Labor Day, September 5, are – Jay and Mary Lou Standefer's Black Flashy (second trial), David Reeder's J Quick Check (third), Richard and Patricia Shearer's Southern Pass Dash (fifth), Abelardo F. Gallegos' Dream Southern (10th), Reliance Ranches LLC's Cocomo Jo (15th), Michael G. Valenzuela's Last Version (16th), Valle Guadiana Corp. and Peter Gallegos' Silver Spike (17th), and Richard Shearer's RS Corona First (20th).

The top earner among the state-bred All American hopefuls, Silver Spike, is a maiden gelding by Brookstone Bay who has run second in three of his four starts. Trained by Juan M. Gonzalez, who won the 2003 All American Futurity final with By By JJ, Silver Spike is coming off of a second-place finish to fastest qualifier Erasmus B Dragon in a 400-yard Zia Futurity (RG1) trial on July 15.

Cocomo Jo is a gelding by the late Dash Ta Fame conditioned by John Bassett, who has won All American finals with A Delightful Dasher (1999) and Ausual Suspect ('01). Cocomo Jo made his career debut on July 3, winning a 250-yard state-bred maiden sprint by a nose at odds of 21-1.

J Quick Check won a Zia Futurity trial by one length in most recent race on July 15. The Dash Ta Fame colt has banked $3,838 from two starts.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet for a stakes- and Quarter Horse industry-record $2.4-million purse on Labor Day, with the connections of the winners earning $1.2 million. Click here for a complete list of entries from the official Ruidoso Downs overnight sheet.
