Ridden for the first time in a race by Casey Lambert, Bev's Fast Lane sprinted to a 1 1/2-length win in the $85,000 C.O. “Ken” Kendrick Memorial Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-old fillies at SunRay Park on Sunday.
Bev's Fast Lane covered her 4 1/2-furlong trip in :52.50, after she broke sharply from post 5 and raced just off of the fractions of :22.04 and :45.86 set by Rio Fresco. Greg Green trained Bev's Fast Lane for owner Gaylon McGee, who acquired the gray or roan Devon Lane filly for $7,500 at last year's New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs.
Bev's Fast Lane was bred by Terrence and Nan Lane, the owners of TNL Farm at Bosque, New Mexico. The filly became the 12th stakes winner from 265 starters sired by Devon Lane, a winning 18-year-old son of the Storm Bird stallion Storm Cat and a half brother to Grade 1 winners Stellar Jayne and Starrer.
Devon Lane's Thoroughbred starters have earned more than $8.02 million. The stallion is owned by a partnership headed by Dan Lucas and stands for a $2,500 fee at TNL Farm.
Bev's Fast Lane's dam, Not So Innocent, is a winning 23-year-old daughter of 1981 Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Bold Ego. Her second dam, Bev's Pride, was a winning and stakes-placed mare by the Gallant Man stallion Gallant Heritage.
The $51,000 winner's share of the Kendrick Memorial Stakes purse boosted Bev's Fast Lane's earnings to $64,510. The filly has won two of three races, and she ran fourth, 2 ¼ lengths behind winner Roll Bloomers Roll, in the fillies division of the April 16, $125,166 Copper Top Futurity (R) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park.
Miss Bullette, the 1-2 favorite, ran second and was followed by Rio Fresco, Sandia Sonata, Chio Sooner Girl, Layne's Best, Haylee's Move, Srita Minister, and Alexis Rose.
Miss Bullette finished second despite breaking slowly and getting bumped by Layne's Best down the backstretch. The homebred dark bay daughter of Roll Hennessy Roll, who races for Bobby Yates, Davis Moore, and Todd Fincher, was making her first start since April 16, when she ran second in the fillies division of the Copper Top Futurity. Miss Bullette has banked $48,033 from one win in three outs.
Rio Fresco is a homebred filly by the Forest Wildcat stallion Attila's Storm campaigned by Todd White. A finalist in the Copper Top Futurity, Rio Fresco has won one of four races and has earned $19,503.
