Big Daddy Cartel Colt Tops New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity Qualifiers
RSS Feeds Friday, April 28, 2017
Edilberto Estrada’s Bug Daddy Cartel, a homebred bay son of Big Daddy Cartel, won the last of four New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) trials at SunRay Park on Friday, and the colt is the fastest qualifier to the May 14, $100,000-est. final.

Prepped by Ernest Fennell and racing on a sealed track labeled wet-fast, Bug Daddy Cartel defeated third-fastest qualifier Redd Metal by a neck in :18.140 for 350 yards. The colt has won one of two starts and has earned $2,690.

Second-fastest qualifier Wdc Woody B Fast won the first trial by one length in :18.164 under jockey Martin Felix. The bay Woodbridge gelding races for Barton Stables LLC and trainer Blake Rust, and he was making his career debut.

Redd Metal is a sorrel son of Swissle Stick (TB) owned and trained by Alvaro Hinojos. A $6,500 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the gelding is a half brother to graded stakes winner Junior June Bug and stakes winner Hedge Fund.
