Brookstone Bay Filly is Fastest Mountain Top Futurity Finalist

Brookstones Chick, a sorrel daughter of Brookstone Bay owned by Don and Lane Reynolds, is the fastest qualifier for the June 16, $296,432 Mountain Top Quarter Horse Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs.

Making her second career start in the sixth of eight trials on Friday, Brookstones Chick outran her 19-1 odds and defeated seventh-fastest qualifier River Suspect by 1 ½ lengths in :17.896 for 350 yards. Bonifacio Perez rode the filly for trainer Fred Danley.

Second-fastest qualifier Gotcha By The Jewels won heat 5 by a head as the 2-1 favorite. A brown colt by Jesse James Jr racing for Sergio Enriquez and trained by Alonso Orozco, Gotcha By The Jewels went 350 yards in :17.962 under jockey Esgar Ramirez while posting his second win in three outs.

Astica, a homebred daughter of Jesse James Jr and champion Alice K White, will face older distaffers for the first time in Wednesday’s 400-yard, $140,000-added New Mexico Filly and Mare Championship (RG1) at Zia Park. The New Mexico Filly and Mare Championship is one of two state-bred stakes and eight stakes scheduled for Wednesday’s third annual “Land of Enchantment” Day program at Zia Park. Post time for the first of 11 races is set for 12:15 p.m. (MST).
