Call Me A Blazn Chic is Morning-Line Choice in Duke Smith Stakes

Call Me A Blazn Chic, a daughter of Chicks A Blazin campaigned by Javier Marquez's J & M Racing and Farm in Monahans, Texas, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite in Saturday's 400-yard, $75,000 Tommy “Duke” Smith Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-old fillies at SunRay Park.

Trained by Roberto Sanchez, Call Me A Blazn Chic has earned $403,535 from 10 starts, and her three wins include last year's $384,031 Zia Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs and $330,643 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park. The filly will be making her first start since April 14, when she ran second as the 11-10 favorite n the 350-yard, $110,000 Sunburst Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.

Call Me A Blazn Chic's five opponents in the Duke Smith include Royal Dream Ranch LLC's Wish You Had One To and Gary C. Kloppenburg's Sparklin Royal.

A bay filly by Stel Corona, Wish You Had One To is coming off of a second-place finish to Little Bit Southern in the April 29, $85,000 Four Corners Senora Stakes (RG2) for older distaffers at SunRay. Wish You Had One To was claimed by her current owner for $10,000 at Sunland on February 25, and she has since banked $29,700 from two starts.

Sparklin Royal is a homebred daughter of the Royal Quick Dash stallion Sixes Royal. The filly has won four of 14 starts, including last year's 400-yard, $77,114 New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque, and she has earned $105,162.

The Duke Smith Stakes is the featured race on SunRay Park's nine-race card, the final Saturday program of the track's 42-day spring meet. Scheduled post time is 1:43 p.m. (MDT).

Thunder Agard, a homebred 5-year-old gelding by To Teras racing for Rebecca Anderson of Grants, New Mexico, outdueled odds-on favorite On Down The Road and E Bar Way down the stretch to win the 1 1/16-mile, $60,000 Lineage Classic Stakes (R), one of four state-bred Thoroughbred stakes contested at The Downs at Albuquerque on Saturday.

This weekend’s Lineage stakes races at The Downs at Albuquerque have attracted entries from 76 New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Five stakes for Thoroughbreds -- all black-type races -- will be run on Saturday, followed by four black-type stakes for state-bred Quarter Horses on Sunday.
