Carson City Girl, the upset winner of the Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) on January 17, drew post 3 for Sunday’s 400-yard, $85,000 New Mexico Horse Breeders’ Association Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.

A sorrel daughter of Woodbridge, Carson City Girl is trained by Fred Danley for owners David and Sandra Barrett. The filly is coming off of a three-quarter length victory at odds of 18-1 in the Shue Fly.

Carson City Girl has won three of six outs and has earned $90,306, and she was a finalist in last year’s $380,000 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs. She will be ridden by Larry Gamez in the NMHBA Stakes.

Other contenders include Sic Em Sixes, the 3-1 morning-line favorite. Trained by Juan M. Gonzalez for owners J. Patricia Gonzalez, Peter B. Gallegos, and Sam Tanner, the gray Sixes Royal gelding was third, 1 1/2 lengths behind Carson City Girl, as the 6-5 choice in the Shue Fly.

Adrian Ramos will ride Sic Em Sixes from post 2.

Cindy Bennett’s My Mojito drew post 6 in the NMHBA Stakes off of his second-place finish in the Shue Fly. A bay son of Jesse James Jr trained by Jason Giles, the gelding has banked $48,409 from seven races, and he was a finalist in last year’s New Mexico Breeders’ (RG3) and Downs at Albuquerque (R) futurities.

My Mojito drew post 6 and will be ridden by Esgar Ramirez.
