RSS Feeds Thursday, January 21, 2016
Larry Gamez rode longshot Carson City Girl to a three-quarter length victory in the 400-yard Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at Sunland Park on January 17.

Sent to post at odds of 18-1 and aided by a 6-mph tail wind, Carson City Girl covered her trip in :19.277 and recorded a career-best 93 speed index. Fred Danley trained the sorrel Woodbridge filly for owners David and Sandra Barrett of Alto, New Mexico.

”We found an opening, and she just took off,” said Gamez, who was riding Carson City Girl for the first time in a race. “I saw nothing but daylight.”

Carson City Girl was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico. The filly’s sire, the unraced 17-year-old Dash Ta Fame stallion Woodbridge, is a full brother to two stakes winners, including Grade 1-winner and one-time 440-yard world-record holder Kendall Jackson, and a half to 2009 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Alice K White.

Since his first crop in ’08, Woodbridge has sired six stakes winners and the earners of more than $1.9 million and include graded stakes winner Woodys Allstar and stakes winner Woody Dungarees. The stallion is owned by and stands for a $2,500 fee at MJ Farms.

Carson City Girl is the first Quarter Horse starter produced by Racetrack Barbie (TB), an Arizona-bred daughter of the Carson City (TB) stallion Hidden City (TB). A 2006 foal, Racetrack Barbie won the 6 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Joanne Dye Stakes (R) for state-bred fillies at Turf Paradise in ’09.

Carson City Girl’s second dam, the winning Mr. Integrity (TB) mare Ms. Interpret (TB), foaled Lil Easy (TB), a half sister to Racetrack Barbie and three-time stakes winner Turf Paradise from 2005-06.

Carson City Girl traces back to her fourth dam, Patty Cleary (TB), an unraced daughter of the Bond Reasoning stallion Forecast and half sister to multiple Grade 3 winner Gum.

The fourth-fastest qualifier, Carson City Girl was coming off of a third-place finish, a half of a length behind second-fastest qualifier First Zoomflash, in the last of four trials on December 28. The filly has won three of her six outs, and the $89,356 winner’s share of the $190,119 purse from her first stakes score pushed her bankroll to $135,877.

Carson City Girl’s resume includes a fourth-place finish in last year’s 400-yard, $389,896 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs.

My Mojito finished second and was followed by fastest qualifier and 6-5 favorite Sic Em Sixes, Major Bites, Frank N Jesse, Flash Of Love, Flash Theory, To Fast To Furious, Rocky El Roble, and First Zoomflash.

My Mojito is a bay son of Jesse James Jr campaigned by Cindy Bennett. The gelding has won one of seven starts, and the $34,221 runner-up share of the Shue Fly purse increased his earnings to $48,409.

Sic Em Sixes races for J. Patricia Gonzalez, Peter B. Gallegos, and Sam Tanner. A homebred multiple stakes placed gray gelding by Sixes Royal, Sic Em Sixes has banked $60,948 from 10 outs, and his four wins include a dominating 3 1/2-length victory in the second of four Shue Fly trials on December 28.
