Cute N Famous, Fysta Post Fastest Trial Times for New Mexico Cup Derby
RSS Feeds Sunday, October 14, 2012

Cute N Famous and Fysta finished in a dead heat for the win in the last of three 440-yard New Mexico Cup Derby (RG3) trials at Zia Park on Sunday.

Aided by a 12-mph tail wind, Cute N Famous and Fysta each covered their quarter-mile trip in :21.663 and reached the wire a half of a length in front of third-fastest qualifier First Blazin Love. Alejandro Medellin rode Cute N Famous for owner Maria G. Gonzalez and trainer Jose Gonzalez Sr., and Cody Wainscott was aboard Fysta for owners David Hinkins and Ross Hinkins and trainer Wes Giles.

Cute N Famous is a chestnut daughter of the late Dash Ta Fame. The filly has won two of her five starts, including two of three races at Zia Park, and has earned $28,237.

A gray filly by the Real Runaway stallion Gonna Ro Sham Bo, Fysta was coming off of a second-place finish in a 400-yard non-winners-of-three allowance race at Zia Park on September 25. All told, Fysta has won three of 14 races and has banked $57,936, and she was the runner-up to Sparklin Royal in last year's 400-yard, $77,114 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.
