RSS Feeds Friday, March 16, 2012

Paul Blanchard's Conn Creek, a sorrel colt by Dash Ta Fame, is the fastest qualifier for this year's $251,333 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.

Saddled by Carlos Sedillo and ridden by Joe Martinez, Conn Creek covered 300 yards in :14.888 while winning the seventh of eight trials by two lengths on Friday. The colt has has won both of his starts and has earned $21,000.

Conn Creek was bred by Mac and Janis Spencer Murray's MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico, which bred the three fastest qualifiers and four of the 10 finalists. The colt's dam, the 18-year-old Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane, won the 1997 La Primera del Ano Derby (G2) at Los Alamitos. Conn Creek is a full brother to Grade 1 winner and one-time 440-yard world-record holder Kendall Jackson, and he is a half brother to 2009 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Alice K White.
