Desirio Filly is Fastest West Texas Futurity Qualifier
RSS Feeds Friday, April 01, 2011

RC Black Mamba, a brown filly by the Grade 3-winning Strawfly Special stallion Desirio, won the third of nine West Texas Futurity (G1) trials at Sunland Park on Friday, and she is the fastest qualifier for the $253,004 final on April 17.

Racing for Fredda Draper of Ruidoso Downs and Lola Willis of Roswell, RC Black Mamba covered 300 yards in :14.937, and her margin of victory was three-quarters of a length. Larry Payne rode the filly for trainer Carl Draper.

RC Black Mamba was bred by Rafter W Stables, and her trial victory was accomplished in her career debut.

Second-fastest qualifier Mighty Famous Vic broke his maiden with a half-length win in heat 7. The homebred Mighty Invictus gelding races for David E. Barrett of Alto, New Mexico.

The complete list of qualifiers for the West Texas Futurity final appears below. (Note that Jess The Beat and Executive Brass tied for the 10th-fastest qualifier slot. A shake will be held in the Sunland Park racing office to determine which one of these horses will start in the final.)
