Down With You Tops Zia Derby Qualifiers
RSS Feeds Sunday, July 18, 2010

Down With You, a homebred colt by The Down Side racing for R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard, on Friday recorded the fastest qualifying time for August 1, $126,924 Zia Derby (RG2) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs.

Saddled by Paul Jones and ridden by Cody Jensen, Down With You won the second of three trials by a neck from longshot I Know Bedarina. The colt covered 400 yards in :19.751 while posting a 90 speed index and his second victory in eight starts.

Down With You is one of 76 winners from 130 starters sired by the late The Down Side, a First Down Dash stallion who won the 2003 Champion of Champions (G1) at Los Alamitos. The colt’s dam, Im Stealing The Show, is a 15-year-old winning daughter of The Signature who has foaled six winners from nine starters, including the stakes-winning Royal Quick Dash filly Billyjeanthequeen.

Desiree Mooring’s Corona Memory Crest, the second-fastest qualifier, won the third trial by a neck. A homebred gelding by Corona Caliente, Corona Memory Crest has earned $62,228 from five wins in eight outs, and he ran second to Here Kittykittykitty in the June 12, $75,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.
