Downwiththequickness is Fastest Senor Futurity Qualifier

Downwiththequickness, a homebred gelding by the Royal Quick Dash stallion Be Real Quick owned and trained by Terry G. Smith, is the fastest qualifier to the September 21, $35,000-added New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Ridden by Alonso Rivera, Downwiththequickness scored a 1 1/2-length victory in the first of three trials on Friday. The gelding went 400 yards in :19.822 while earning his second win in five starts.

Downwiththequickness was coming off of a one-length win in a 330-yard maiden special weight race for New Mexico-breds at Albuquerque on August 2. He has earned $10,455 while racing exclusively in New Mexico.

Second-fastest qualifier Threedeewoodee won the second trial by three-quarters of a length. The runner-up in this year’s $231,438 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park and $357,030 Mountain Top Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs, the Woodbridge gelding was ridden by Manuel Gutierrez for owner Gary L. Thompson and trainer Emilio Cadena III.

Trainer Joel Marr tallied his 1,000th career Thoroughbred win in Tuesday’s 11th and final race at Zia Park. Marr’s milestone victory came with Sweet Diamond, a 3-year-old Attila’s Storm filly owned by Rodney Brooks and Donnie Reid and ridden by Ken Tohill, in a 1-mile race for New Mexico-bred maiden $6,500 claimers.
