RSS Feeds Friday, September 06, 2013
Six New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds have been entered in Sunday’s 7-furlong, $37,000 E.T. Springer Stakes (R) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Groushy Apadana, the three-quarter length winner of last year’s E.T. Springer Stakes, is coming off of a sixth-place finish on a muddy track in the 7 1/2-furlong, $50,000 Land of Enchantment Handicap (R) at Ruidoso Downs on July 28. An 8-year-old gelding by the Crafty Prospector stallion Mr. Groush owned by 5 Star Racing LLC and trained by Michael Valdez, Groushy Apadana has earned $66,404 from five starts this season, and his two wins include a 1 1/2-length victory in the 1-mile, $65,000 Jack Cole Handicap (R) at SunRay Park in April.

Groushy Apadana drew the rail post and will be ridden by Enrique Garcia on Sunday.

Another E.T. Springer contender, Playin Tough, ran second, three-quarters of a length behind stablemate Spinning Touch, in the 1 1/16-mile, $37,000 Lineage Stakes (R) at Albuquerque on August 24. Jose R. Gonzalez Jr. trains the homebred 5-year-old Touchdown Ky gelding for owners Michael and Jeanne Fuhs.

Playin Tough has won two races during the current Albuquerque meet, both against allowance company.
