RSS Feeds Thursday, May 13, 2010

Holy Bucket LLC’s Famous Dungarees on Thursday won the second of five New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) trials and posted the fastest qualifying time for the May 30, $75,000-added final.

Sent to post at odds of 12-1, Famous Dungarees defeated 17-10 favorite WR Dash by a neck while covering 350 yards in :17.614 and recording an 87 speed index. Esgar Ramirez rode the Dash Ta Fame gelding for trainer Mike Barber.

Famous Dungarees has won one of three races and has earned $3,972. The gelding was bred by Ron and Kay Jenkins of Los Lunas, New Mexico, and he is one of 579 winners from 1,068 starters sired by Dash Ta Fame, a Grade 1-winning son of First Down Dash whose 16 crops have banked more than $15.6 million and include graded stakes winner and 2006 All American Futurity (G1) runner-up Gun Battle.

Famous Dungarees is one of two winners from three starters foaled by the winning and stakes-placed Now I Know mare Gingham Dungarees. The gelding’s second dam, Gingham N Diamonds, is a winning daughter of the Dash For Cash stallion The Adamas who ran third in the ’94 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Second-fastest qualifier WR Dash is a homebred Dash Ta Fame filly racing for Rose Webb of Farmington, New Mexico, and trained by Wes Giles. WR Dash ran eighth, 1 ¾ lengths behind winner Streak Of Sixes, in the April 11, $283,555 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG1) at Sunland Park.
