RSS Feeds Saturday, August 07, 2010
Jockey G.R. Carter Jr. rode Fast Movin Vic to a half-length victory in Saturday’s $60,210 John Deere New Mexico Juvenile Challenge (G3) at Ruidoso Downs.

Saddled by Fred Danley for owner David E. Barrett of Alto, New Mexico, Fast Movin Vic covered 350 yards on a sloppy track in :17.426 while earning his first career stakes win. The victory earned the homebred Mighty Invictus gelding a berth in the November 19, $150,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Fair Grounds Racecourse in New Orleans.

Fast Movin Vic became the first stakes winner from 16 starters sired by Mighty Invictus, an 8-year-old son of champion Mr Jess Perry who won the 2005 Texas Classic Derby (G1) at Lone Star Park. A first-year sire, Mighty Invictus is a full brother to stakes winner Jess B Mighty and half brother to stakes winner and 1998 AQHA New Mexico Juvenile Challenge (G3) runner-up Mighty Obscession. He stands for a $1,000 fee at JEH Stallion Station-Oklahoma at Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

Fast Movin Vic is also one of two winners from three starters produced by Fame Us Katie, a winning 8-year-old daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Dash Ta Fame and finalist in the ’04 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque. The gelding is a half brother to Captian Jacksboro, a gelding back Jacksboro who won last year’s New Mexico State Fair Senor Futurity (RG3) for state-bred colts and geldings.

Fame Us Katie’s half brother, the Special Task gelding Special Task Force, won five stakes from 2002-06, including the 2003 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) at Lone Star Park and ’04 MBNA America Oklahoma Challenge (G1) at Remington Park. The mare is also a half sister to Bills Miracle, a filly by champion Deans Miracle who ran third in the ’05 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3).

Fast Movin Vic traces back to his fourth dam, Miss Air Mail. A 1980 foal by the Nashville (TB) stallion Ichibon, Miss Air Mail won the 1983 TQHA Texas Derby at Trinity Meadows near Fort Worth. The mare also produced five winners from eight starters, including 1998 AQHA Oklahoma Juvenile Challenge (G3) runner-up Big Cash Roll.

The third-fastest qualifier and 7-10 favorite, Fast Movin Vic returned a $3.40 win mutuel and teamed with runner-up Tebo Creek for a $17.60 ($2) exacta. Features Lucky Charm, DM Strait, and Granturismo completed the official order of finish.

Granturismo crossed the wire third, but a stewards’ inquiry resulted in the gelding being disqualified and placed fifth for lugging in and forcing DM Strait to check.

A winner of two of his seven starts, Fast Movin Vic has earned $69,003 while racing exclusively in New Mexico. The gelding’s stakes resume includes a third-place finish in the April 18, $302,339 West Texas Futurity (G1) at Sunland Park.

Tebo Creek banked $12,042 to push his earnings to $15,722 for his owner, Eugene Atayde. The gray colt by Sixes Royal was coming off of a nose victory in his New Mexico Juvenile Challenge trial.

A Texas-bred filly by the late Feature Mr Jess racing for Lucky Charm Racing, Features Lucky Charm earned $6,021. The filly is winless in two outs.
