RSS Feeds Wednesday, December 29, 2010
Tony and Molly Doughtie’s Whathaveigottado, the fastest qualifier, earned his first stakes victory in Wednesday’s 400-yard, $138,471 Sunland Park Winter Derby (G3) at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Jacky Martin for trainer Paul Jones, Whathaveigottado covered his 400-yard trip in :18.766 while posting a career-best 103 speed index. The $65,081 winner’s share of the purse increased the gray colt’s bankroll to $139,648.

Whathaveigottado was bred in Oklahoma by Mackie Racing LLC, and he became the 51st stakes winner from 11 crops sired by the Takin On The Cash stallion Shazoom. Now 17 and the winner of the 1995 Speedhorse Sprint Futurity (RG3) at Trinity Meadows in Texas, Shazoom has sired 638 starters and the earners of more than $15.9 million, including his top earner, multiple Grade 1 winner Azoom. He will stand the 2011 season for a $7,500 at Bob Moore Farms at Norman, Oklahoma.

Whathaveigottado’s dam, the Beduino (TB) mare Strawberry Silk, was the AQHA champion 2-year-old in 1989. Now 23 and the winner of that year’s Grade 1 All American and Sun Country futurities, Strawberry Silk has produced five stakes winners from 23 starters, including ’01 AQHA champion 3-year-old Stoli and Grade 3 winners Rousing Encore and Pappasito, all of whom are half siblings to Whathaveigottado.

Whathaveigottado’s second dam, the stakes-winning Shawne Bug mare Painted Bug, ran third in the 1982 Blue Ribbon and Sun Country futurities. A 1980 Louisiana-bred foal, Painted Bug produced eight winners from 13 starters, including ’94 Dixie Downs Derby runner-up Paint Me Easy.

All told, Whathaveigottado has won five of 16 starts while racing in four states. The colt’s stakes record includes a runner-up finish in last year’s $163,090 Hialeah Laddie Futurity at Hialeah Park.

Whathaveigottado was also a finalist in the November 13, $367,649 Texas Classic Derby (G1) at Lone Star Park.
First Prize Leesa ran second, a half of a length behind the winner, and was followed by Corona For The Lady, Cash For Cottontail, Heza Hotdoggin, Silk Mountain, Arethas Main Feature, Urbanite, Yeah Ima Leader, and Van Zant.

First Prize Leesa is a homebred Mr Jess Perry filly racing for Weetona Stanley of Madill, Oklahoma. The winner of last year’s Remington Park Futurity (G1), First Prize Leesa has earned $488,270 from seven victories in 11 starts, and she ran second as the 6-5 choice in this year’s Texas Classic Derby.

Corona For The Lady was sent to post as the 2-1 favorite, and the Corona Cartel gelding earned $15,232 to push his bankroll to $109,499 for owner Carlos Quevedo. Corona For The Lady has won four of 16 races, including the October 10, $125,130 Hobbs America Derby (G2) at Zia Park.
