A field of 12 New Mexico-bred 2-year-old colts and geldings, including two each from the barns of Fred Danley and Gary Cross, will meet in the 6-furlong, $40,000-added George Maloof Futurity (R) on September 26, closing day of the New Mexico State Fair portion of The Downs at Albuquerque meet.
Danley’s two qualifiers include Running Squall, a homebred gelding by Squall he trains for owner William T. Stradley. Running Squall has earned $110,617 from eight starts, and his three victories include the 5 ½-furlong, $189,633 Rio Grande Senor Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs on August 1.
Danley’s other finalist, Ego And Honor, is a bay colt by Red’s Honor owned and bred by his wife, Rita Danley. Ego And Honor made his career debut by finishing third, eight lengths behind Elijah’s Elite, in the first trial.

Cross also qualified Numberoneson, a colt by Mr. Trieste he owns in partnership with Richard Lueck. Numberoneson has won two of four races and has banked $13,436.
Other prominent Maloof qualifiers include Marjorie Martin’s Russian Lane, the runner-up to Verny in the July 3, $75,000 Totah Stakes (R) at SunRay Park; and Karon Ashford’s Cool Crypto, a homebred gelding who broke his maiden against open company at Prairie Meadows in his career debut on July 19.
