RSS Feeds Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Weeping Aly, a homebred gelding by the Horse Chestnut (SAf) stallion Weeping Willow owned and trained by Hermenegildo “Papis” Aldavaz, led at every call to win the second of two Copper Top Futurity (colts and geldings division) trials at Sunland Park on Tuesday.

Ridden by Ricardo Jaime, Weeping Aly defeated Bobcat Ray by 1 ½ lengths while going 4 ½ furlongs in :52.93. The gelding was coming off of a fourth-place finish in his career debut on March 2.

Weeping Aly is the first starters produced by his dam, the winning Le Grande Danseur mare Dancers Sister.

Dandy Don Who made his career debut with a nose win in the first trial. A homebred son of Quinton's Gold campaigned by Sam E. Stevens and Sammy L. Stevens, Dandy Don Who stopped the timer in :52.35. Aldo Arboleda rode the gelding for trainer Todd Fincher.

The colts and geldings division of the $60,000-added Copper Top Futurity final will be run on April 13. The complete list of qualifiers for the final appears in alphabetical order below:
