Blooming Heat and My Mirage made their career debuts with victories in Sunday’s Copper Top Futurity (R) trials at Sunland Park.

The top five finishers from Sunday’s two trial heats will meet in the May 3, $110,000-added Copper Top Futurity final.

Blooming Heat, a homebred dark bay or brown daughter of Southwestern Heat, scored a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length win in the first trial. Ridden by Ry Eikleberry for owner and trainer Fred Danley, the filly covered 4 1/2 furlongs in :51.46.

Blooming Heat is one of four winners from five starts foaled by Blooming Pleasure, a homebred winning mare by Lesters Boy who ran second in three New Mexico-bred stakes in 2007, including the 5 1/2-furlong, $122,641 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs.

My Mirage is a homebred colt by Diabolical trained by Dick Cappellucci for owner Bauer Farm LLC. Under jockey Ry Eikleberry, My Mirage won the second heat by 1 1/2 lengths in :52.71.

My Mirage is the first starter produced by the winning Forestry mare Iron Butterfly.
