RSS Feeds Sunday, October 16, 2016
Datona Doll, a sorrel daughter of Jesse James Jr racing for Mark and Annette McCloy, won the last of three New Mexico Cup Derby (RG2) trials on Sunday, and the filly is the fastest qualifier to the $200,000-est. final at Zia Park on October 30.

Ridden by Ricky Ramirez for trainer Trey Wood and racing against a reported 6-mph head wind, Datona Doll covered 440 yards in :21.819, and her winning margin was a neck from second-fastest qualifier Air Force Won. The filly was winning for the fourth time in seven outs and boosting her bankroll to $95,108, of which $85,248 has been earned this season.

Datona Doll was bred by Benny and Donna Smith. The filly was purchased as a yearling for $45,000 at the 2014 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs.

Air Force Won was making his first-ever start in New Mexico off of an Arapahoe Park spring campaign during which the Ketel Won gelding won the Rocky Mountain Derby and Adequan Arapahoe Derby Challenge and ran third in the Mile High Derby. Jaime Leos rode Air Force Won for owner Salvador Nava-Nava and trainer Guadalupe Chavez.
