Filly by Hard Hitting Is Fastest New Mexico Breeders' Futurity Qualifier

AJ Hardwood, a homebred filly by the TR Dasher stallion Hard Hitting racing for John and Anna Romero, is the fastest qualifier for the May 26, $150,000-est. New Mexico Breeders' Futurity (RG3) at SunRay Park.

Prepped by Fernando Carrete and ridden by Daniel Torres, AJ Hardwood broke her maiden with a half-length victory in the third of four trials on Friday. The filly covered her 350-yard trip in :17.844 and earned a 77 speed index.

AJ Hardwood was coming off of a fifth-place finish against state-bred maidens in her career debut on April 19. She has banked $2,330 from two outs.

Second-fastest qualifier First Place Moonfast won heat 2 by a neck in :17.909. Ridden by Daniel Amaya for owner Alberto R. Montoya and trainer Arturo Chavez, the gray gelding by AQHA champion First Moonflash was posting her second win in three starts.

First Place Moonflash was bred by Mike Abraham, who bred five of the 10 finalists.
