First Moonflash Filly Is Top Mountain Top Futurity Qualifier
RSS Feeds Friday, May 31, 2013

Mitey Moon, a homebred filly by AQHA champion First Moonflash racing for Debra Jean Laney, is the fastest qualifier for the June 15, $356,980 Mountain Top Futurity (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at Ruidoso Downs.

Making her career debut in the first of 10 trials on Friday, Mitey Moon defeated non-qualifier Mister Blazin First by 2 ¼ lengths while covering her 350-yard trip in :17.514. Jaime Leos rode the filly for trainer Juan M. Gonzalez.

Second-fastest qualifier Heza Wild Dragon won heat 10 by three-quarters of a length from fifth-fastest qualifier Too Flash For You. The sorrel colt by Genuine Strawfly is owned and trained by Kristopher Cordova. Produced by 2003 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG1) winner Hidden Dragon, Heza Wild Dragon is a half brother to Grade 3 winner Zulu Dragon.

Gary L. Thompson's Threedeewoodee, the sixth-fastest qualifier, won the fourth trial by 2 ¾ lengths as the 3-5 favorite. A $39,000 purchase at last year's New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the Woodbridge filly was coming off of a second-place finish to Moonfisant in the April 7, $231,438 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
