First-Time Starters Lady Genius, Prides Cousin Make Fillies Division of Copper Top Futurity
RSS Feeds Tuesday, March 19, 2013

A pair of fillies making their first starts, Lady Genius and Prides Cousin, won Copper Top Futurity (fillies division) trials at Sunland Park on Tuesday.

Trained by Dallas Barton and ridden by Carlos Madeira for owners W.D. Carson Sr., M.H. Carson, and Leach Racing LLC, Lady Genius covered 4 ½ furlongs in :52.91 while defeating first-time starter Tizzy Devil by a half of a length in the first of two trials. The homebred daughter of Quinton's Gold and the stakes-winning Beau Genius mare Miss Einstein is a half sister to four winners, including stakes winners Beau Wizer and Double Smart.

Prides Cousin won the second trial by one length from 3-2 favorite Daddy's Money. A chestnut daughter of Diabolical racing for Linda Hunter and trained by Todd Fincher, Prides Cousin stopped the timer in :53.25 under jockey Duane “Lefty” Sterling.

Prides Cousin is the first starter produced by the winning Mr. Groush mare Jannaslilkicker.
