RSS Feeds Wednesday, January 11, 2017
A full field of a dozen New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds, headlined by morning-line favorite Streaks Bro, has been entered in Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile, $85,000 Albert Dominguez Memorial Handicap (R) at Sunland Park.

Streaks Bro is trained by Gary Cross for his owner, Maurcenia Cross of Fort Sumner, New Mexico. A homebred 5-year-old son of Elijah’s Song, the gelding is coming off of a 4-year-old campaign during which he outran his 11-1 odds to win the 1-mile, $180,000 Rocky Gulch New Mexico Cup Championship Stakes (R) at Zia Park on October 30.

Streaks Bro banked $162,538 from 10 outs last season. The gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Justin Shepherd.

Other contenders include D E Lover and That’s Who. D E Lover races for Leroy Martinez and Tony Sedillo, who also trains the 6-year-old chestnut son of So Long Birdie. The gelding won three stakes at distances ranging from 5 1/2 to 6 furlongs last season, and he will be seeking his first-ever victory at the Albert Dominguez Memorial Handicap distance on Saturday.

D E Lover drew post 8 and will be ridden by Frank Reyes.

That’s Who brings career earnings of $796,152 from 38 races for his owners, Sam and Latane Stevens of Lamesa, Texas. A homebred 8-year-old Quinton’s Gold gelding, That’s Who has won 17 races, including nine stakes, and he drew post 11 and will be ridden by Ry Eikleberry for trainer Greg Green.
