Fury Of The Storm Draws Outside Post in NM Breeders' Stakes

Graded stakes winner Fury Of The Storm drew post 10 for Sunday's 400-yard, $75,000-added New Mexico Breeders' Stakes (RG2) for state-bred 3-year-olds at SunRay Park.

A bay colt by the Corona Cartel stallion Furyofthewind racing for SM Cattle Company of Socorro, Texas, and Jaime Dominguez, Fury Of The Storm will be making his first start since February 19, when he scored a neck victory in the 400-yard, $110,000 New Mexico Horse Breeders' Association Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park. The runner-up to First Blazin Love in the $286,364 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland on January 7, Fury Of The Storm has won three of seven races and has earned $147,231, of which $117,546 has been banked this season.

First Blazin Love, a chestnut Chicks A Blazin colt campaigned by Dwayne Johnson, Lisa Saumell, and Johnny C. Martinez, is also entered in the New Mexico Breeders' Stakes. First Blazin Love has won four of six outs and has earned $179,572, and he ran second to Fury Of The Storm as the 4-5 favorite in the NMHBA Stakes.

Also, Caliente Colt will put his undefeated record on the line in this race, which will mark his first start against stakes company. The sorrel gelding by Corona Caliente, who races for J. Patricia Gonzalez and Susan A. Kirker, has banked $53,760 from three outs, and his three wins include two allowance scores during the 2011-12 Sunland Park meet.

The New Mexico Breeders' Stakes will be the featured race on SunRay Park's nine-race program, which gets underway at 12:55 p.m. (MDT). Scheduled post time for the stakes is 1:43 p.m.

All horses have been assigned to carry 122 pounds. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments – Lttle Lighting (Adrian A. Ramos), Runaway Sham Bo (Ricky Ramirez), My Big Chief (J. Martin Bourdieu), Latest Policy (Tony Guymon), A Royal Debt (Jesse Levario), Caliente Colt (Antonio Escareno), First Blazin Love (Cody Jensen), Sparklin Royal (Jaime Leos), Untangled Vines (Macario Rodriguez), and Fury Of The Storm (Esgar Ramirez).

The New Mexico Filly and Mare Championship is one of two state-bred stakes and eight stakes scheduled for Wednesday’s third annual “Land of Enchantment” Day program at Zia Park.
