Gold Boundry Returns in Pepsi Cola Stakes
RSS Feeds Saturday, January 9, 2016
Gold Boundry, a homebred son of Quinton’s Gold, is the 3-1 morning-line favorite for Sunday’s $85,000 Pepsi Cola Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at Sunland Park.

Trained by Todd Fincher for owners Bessie Prather, Steve Prather, and Dwayne Taylor, Gold Boundry will be shortening in distance off of his wire-to-wire, 6 1/2-length victory in the 1-mile Eddy County Stakes (R) for state-bred 2-year-olds at Zia Park on November 25. All told, the gelding has won two of six outs and has earned $122,741.

Gold Boundry drew post 4 and will be ridden by Elvin Gonzalez.

Other contenders in the 6-furlong stakes include Ten Penny Cents and Back Seat Hero. A homebred chestnut son of Right Rigger trained by Weston Martin for owners Larry Teague and Harry Teague of Hobbs, New Mexico, Ten Penny Cents ran second to Gold Boundry in the Eddy County Stakes. The gelding has banked $75,740 from six starts.

Ten Penny Cents will be ridden by Ry Eikleberry from post 9.

Back Seat Hero races for J. Kirk and Judy Robison of El Paso, Texas, from the barn of trainer Henry Dominguez. A homebred gelding by Diabolical, Back Seat Hero is coming off of a 2-year-old campaign in which he rallied to win the November 1, 6-furlong New Mexico Cup Juvenile Championship (R) at Zia Park.

David Cardoso will ride Back Seat Hero from post 8.

Armando Arreola’s Asnowdream will be moving up in class off of his eight-length victory at odds of 11-1 in his debut, a 5 1/2-furlong maiden-special-weight sprint for state-breds at Zia Park on November 17. Trained by Jose Luis Vargas, the homebred Southwestern Heat gelding is the first starter produced by Awintersdream, a multiple New Mexico-bred stakes winning daughter of Suave Prospect.

Asnowdream drew post 3 and will be ridden by Miguel Fuentes Jr.

The complete lineup for the Pepsi Cola Stakes, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds -- Get Er Done (Alfredo Juarez Jr.), 8-1; Terras Song (Enrique Gomez), 8-1; Asnowdream (Miguel Fuentes Jr.), 10-1; Gold Boundry (Elvin Gonzalez), 3-1; Dmrestlesswarrior (Francisco Duran), 20-1; King Of Cool (Aldo Arboleda), 8-1; Dyno Dom (Alejandro Medellin), 15-1; Back Seat Hero (David Cardoso), 5-1; Ten Penny Cents (Ry Eikleberry), 4-1; Jonesy Who (Ken Tohill), 6-1; and Devons Trick (Luis Ramon Rodriguez), 12-1.
