Hayley’s Halo, a homebred daughter of Sea Of Secrets racing for Lathrop G. Hoffman, ran her winning streak to three in the 6-furlong, $55,360 Zia Park Distaff Stakes on Saturday.
Ridden by Alejandro Medellin for trainer Henry Dominguez, Hayley’s Halo stopped the timer in 1:08.99, her fastest clocking in six starts at the 6-furlong distance. The 3-year-old filly’s winning margin was a neck from 14-1 longshot Petition The Lady.
Hayley’s Halo was bred in California, and she is one of 16 stakes winners from eight crops sired by Sea Of Secrets, a son of the Storm Bird stallion Storm Cat who won the 1998 San Vicente Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita and whose 290 starters have banked more than $15.03 million. Now 15, Sea Of Secrets is a half brother to three Grade 3 winners, including 1996 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) runner-up Love That Jazz. He stood the 2010 season for a $3,000 fee at Ballena Vista Farm at Ramona, California.
Hayley’s Halo’s dam, Hilo Halo, is a 12-year-old unraced daughter of the Mt. Livermore stallion Peaks And Valleys who has foaled five winners from as many starters. The filly’s third dam, Luthier’s Launch, was a Grade 1-placed daughter of Relaunch who won the 1989 Dogwood Stakes at Churchill Downs and who produced eight winners from 10 starters.
Hayley’s Halo traces back to her fourth dam, the winning Luthier (FR) mare Tanapa (FR). A 1979 foal, Tanapa produced four stakes winners from 11 starters, including Tamise, a filly by Time For A Change and a Group 3 winner at St. Cloud, France, in 1995, and the late Quirinetta, a Group 3 winner in South Africa in ’89.
A $25,000 claimer at Santa Anita Park in February, Hayley’s Halo has banked $172,060 from 13 races, and her five wins include the 1-mile, $60,090 Chaves County Stakes at Zia Park on October 3. The filly also ran second, 3 ½ lengths behind winner Harissa, in the 1 1/16-mile, $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks on March 28.
No Other Tone ran third, 1 ½ lengths behind runner-up Petition The Lady. Perfectly Nice, Indiabonita, Songtress, Snowdrop, Scherzi, Linnea, and Devils Humor completed the order of finish.
Petition The Lady earned $12,100 for her owners, SMS Racing LLC of Alamosa, Colorado. A 5-year-old chestnut daughter of Petionville, Petition The Lady has banked $152,584 from 19 races, and her six victories include last season’s 7 ½-furlong, $50,000 Fern Sawyer Handicap at Ruidoso Downs.
No Other Tone has won six of 14 races and has earned $143,908 for her owner, Tom Durant of Granbury, Texas, who also bred the 5-year-old daughter of 2001 Iowa Derby winner Touch Tone. Campaigned last spring at Lone Star Park near Dallas, No Other Tone ran second in the July 10, $50,000 Valor Farm Stakes (R) for Texas-breds and third in both the $75,000 Valid Expectations Stakes and $50,000 JEH Stallion Station Stakes (R).
