Hayley’s Halo Posts Wire-To-Wire Victory in Chaves County Stakes
RSS Feeds Sunday, October 03, 2010
Hayley’s Halo, a homebred sophomore filly racing for Lathrop G. Hoffman, led at every call en route to a three-quarter length victory in the $60,090 Chaves County Stakes for distaffers at Zia Park on Sunday.

Prepped by Henry Dominguez and ridden by Alejandro Medellin, Hayley’s Halo set comfortable fractions of :25.27, :48.49, and 1:12.57 before stopping the timer in 1:38.12 for one mile. The victory was her first in a stakes, and the $36,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed her earnings to $139,060.

Hayley’s Halo was bred in California, and she became the 16th stakes winner from eight crops sired by Sea Of Secrets. A 15-year-old stallion by Storm Cat who won the 1998 San Vicente Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park, Sea Of Secrets has sired 285 starters and the earners of more than $14.8 million. The stallion stands for a $3,000 fee at Ballena Vista Farm at Ramona, California.

Hayley’s Halo is also one of five winners from as many starters produced by the unraced 12-year-old Peaks And Valleys mare Hilo Halo. The filly’s third dam, Luthier’s Launch, is a 24-year-old listed stakes-winning daughter of Relaunch who ran second in two Grade 2 stakes at Santa Anita in 1990.

Hayley’s Halo traces back to her fourth dam, the Luthier (FR) mare Tanapa (FR). A 1979 foal, Tanapa produced four stakes winners, including Tamise, a filly by Time For A Change who won the 1995 Prix de Flore (G3) at Saint Cloud Racecourse in France.

A $25,000 claimer in California, Hayley’s Halo has won three of her four starts and has earned $115,400 since shipping to Sunland Park in March. All told, the filly has won four of her 12 outs, and her stakes resume includes a second-place finish to Harissa in the 1 1/16-mile, $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks on March 28.

No Other Tone ran second and was followed by Bear’s Lightning, Snowdrop, De My Maureen, Setustrait, and A.P. Flatter. King’s Water Lily, the lone New Mexico-bred in the original field of eight, was a trainer scratch.

A homebred 5-year-old mare racing for Tom Durant, No Other Tone has earned $116,088 from five victories in 12 races. Racing at Lone Star Park near Dallas earlier this year, the mare ran a close second in the 6-furlong, $50,000 Valor Farm Stakes (R) for Texas-breds on July 10, and she ran third in both the 6-furlong Valid Expectation Stakes and 6 ½-furlong JEH Stallion Station Stakes (R).

Bear’s Lightning was claimed by Vinery Stables LLC and trainer Steve Asmussen for $40,000 at Woodbine Racecourse near Toronto on July 23. The 4-year-old gray or roan Maria’s Mon filly earned $6,000 to boost her lifetime bankroll to $152,247 from 15 starts.
