RSS Feeds Sunday, April 10, 2011
Sent to post as the 7-10 favorite, Hayley's Halo responded with a convincing 7 1/2-length win in the Saturday's $50,000 Czaria Stakes for fillies and mares at Sunland Park.

Hayley's Halo went 6 furlongs in 1:09.37 under leading jockey Alejandro Medellin, as the homebred 4-year-old dark bay or brown filly scored her seventh victory in 16 starts. Henry Dominguez prepped Hayley's Halo for owner Lathrop G. Hoffman.

Hayley's Halo was bred in California. The filly's sire, Sea Of Secrets, is a 16-year-old son of the Storm Bird stallion Storm Cat. Racing from 1997-2000, Sea Of Secrets won four of 10 races, including the 7-furlong San Vicente Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park in 1998, and he earned $155,757.

A half brother to three Grade 3 winners, Sea Of Secrets has sired the earners of more than $14.9 million. He stands for a $2,500 fee at Ballena Vista Farm in Ramona, California.

Hayley's Halo has banked $242,060, and she has won five of her seven starts since she shipped to New Mexico from the barn of Jerry Fanning during the winter of 2010. The filly's stakes record includes victories in the 6 1/2-furlong, $50,000 El Diario Stakes at Sunland on February 12, and last year's 6-furlong, $55,000 Zia Distaff Stakes and 1-mile, $60,000 Chaves County Stakes at Zia Park.

Hayley's Halo also ran second, 3 ½ lengths behind winner Harissa, in last year's $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks.

Hayley's Halo returned a $3.40 win mutuel and teamed with runner-up and 9-2 third choice She'smylittleman for a $7.30 ($1) exacta. Dixie Unioness, a 16-1 longshot, ran third to complete a $52.50 ($1) trifecta.

Miss Heather Lee, Tornado Betty, Facil Catana, and Stormy Express completed the order of finish.

A brown 5-year-old mare campaigned by the California-based Tommy Town Thoroughbreds LLC, She'smylittleman has won six of 12 races and has earned $126,330. She'smylittleman has won two of five races since she shipped to New Mexico earlier this year, including a 6-furlong allowance-optional claiming ($25,000) sprint at Sunland on March 26.

Dixie Unioness entered the Czaria off of two consecutive 6-furlong victories at Sunland. The 5-year-old daughter of Dixieland Band, who races for Darrell and Cynthia Johnson, has banked $75,170 from three wins in 15 outs.
