Hennessy Road is Prompt Favorite in Fillies Division of Copper Top Futurity
RSS Feeds Saturday, April 14, 2012
Casey Lambert rode Hennessy Road to a 3 1/2-length win in Saturday's 4 1/2-furlong, $100,958 Copper Top Futurity (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-old fillies at Sunland Park.

Saddled by Todd Fincher for owners W. Davis and Lisa Moore, Hennessy Road stopped the timer in :52.35 after setting fractions of :22.54 and :45.11. The homebred filly returned a $4.40 win mutuel as the 6-5 favorite in the full field of 10.

Hennessy Road is one of five stakes winners from 65 starters sired by Roll Hennessy Roll, a Grade 3-winning stallion by Hennessy who earned $173,869 from 12 starts while racing in five states from 2002-04. Roll Hennessy Roll's runners have banked more than $1.5 million and include 2011 Copper Top Futurity winners Roll Bloomers Roll and I Play Dirty.

Roll Hennessy Roll is owned by Fred Alexander and Brad King, and the stallion stands for a $2,500 fee at A & A Ranch in Anthony, New Mexico.

Hennessy Road's dam, Marquee, is an 11-year-old daughter of the Mr. Prospector stallion Gold Regent who won the 4 1/2-furlong, $42,700 Manor Downs Futurity in Texas in '03. The filly's third dam, the Exceedingly mare My Tara, won stakes during her 5-year-old campaign at Garden State Park in New Jersey and Keystone Racetrack in Pennsylvania in 1985.

Hennessy Road was three weeks removed from a two-length victory as the 9-10 choice in the first of two Copper Top trials on March 20. The filly has won two of her three outs, and the $50,479 winner's share of the finals purse pushed her bankroll to $59,079.

Star Of Wonder finished second and was followed by Fallon Fontane, Silver Flair, Park Lane Lass, Churning, La La La Dandy, Cinnamon Roll, Quinton's Queen, and Gone Dandy.

Star Of Wonder is a bay filly by Storm Of Goshen racing for Quinn and Kim Jones, who also campaign Key To The Venture, the runner-up to Kiss My Hennessy in the colts and geldings division of the Copper Top. Star Of Wonder has earned $24,787 from three starts, and her record includes a victory in the second Copper Top trial.

A $4,500 purchase at last year's New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs, Fallon Fontane has banked $12,315 from two races for her owner, Stanley Forbes. Fallon Fontane made her career debut with a fifth-place finish in the second Copper Top trial.
