High Test Gal Returns in La Senora Stakes

High Test Gal, a homebred filly racing for Denny Crozier of Hobbs, New Mexico, drew post 6 for Saturday’s 6-furlong, $85,000 La Senora Stakes (R) for state-bred 3-year-old fillies at Sunland Park.

Trained by Hermenegildo “Poppy” Aldavaz, High Test Gal has earned $91,680 from six starts, and her three wins include a 5 1/2-length victory at odds of 15-1 in the 1-mile, $85,000 Enchantress Stakes (R) at Sunland on December 15.

Francisco Giles will ride High Test Gal in the La Senora.

Other La Senora contenders include morning-line favorite That’s The Idea, a homebred daughter of Diabolical owned by J. Kirk and Judy Robison of El Paso, Texas, and trained by Henry Dominguez. That’s The Idea has banked $225,535 from five outs, and her two stakes wins include an 8 3/4-length victory as the even-money favorite in the 6-furlong, $140,000 New Mexico Cup Juvenile Fillies Stakes (R) at Zia Park on October 27.

That’s The Idea will be racing with blinkers for the first time on Saturday.

Also, Unofficial Winner will be seeking her first stakes win in the La Senora. A bay filly by Attila’s Storm campaigned by Joe Dee Brooks, Lee Lewis, Ted Rushing, and Scott Bryant from the barn of Todd Fincher, Unofficial Winner will be making her first start since November 16, when she scored a seven-length victory against state-bred entry-level allowance company going 5 1/2 furlongs at Zia Park.

The La Senora will be the 10th race on Sunland Park’s 11-race program. Estimated post time for the race is 4 p.m. (MST).

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds -- Zasha (Dusty Shepherd), 6-1; My Dandy Girl (Ry Eikleberry), 20-1; Roll So Gold (Irwin Rosendo), 8-1; Rollsetroll (Alfredo Juarez Jr.), 5-1; Birdie Brew (Miguel Perez), 15-1; High Test Gal (Francisco Giles), 3-1; Unofficial Winner (Aldo Arboleda), 9-2; That’s The Idea (Enrique Gomez), 5-2; and Storm With Flair (Jimmy Ray Coates), 12-1.

Thunder Agard, a homebred 5-year-old gelding by To Teras racing for Rebecca Anderson of Grants, New Mexico, outdueled odds-on favorite On Down The Road and E Bar Way down the stretch to win the 1 1/16-mile, $60,000 Lineage Classic Stakes (R), one of four state-bred Thoroughbred stakes contested at The Downs at Albuquerque on Saturday.

This weekend’s Lineage stakes races at The Downs at Albuquerque have attracted entries from 76 New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Five stakes for Thoroughbreds -- all black-type races -- will be run on Saturday, followed by four black-type stakes for state-bred Quarter Horses on Sunday.

Gotta Move, a registered New Mexico-bred son of Ghostly Moves owned by Jose Rivera, broke the 7-furlong track record in a $24,000 allowance-optional claiming ($15,000) race at The Downs at Albuquerque on August 8.
