Jesse James Jr Gelding is Fastest Zia Futurity Qualifier
RSS Feeds Friday, July 11, 2014

De Loach, a gelded son of Jesse James Jr racing for Terry and Irene Stennett, is the fastest qualifier to the July 27, $392,253 Zia Futurity (RG1) for New Mexico-breds at Ruidoso Downs.

Ridden by Ricky Ramirez for trainer Blane Wood in the fourth of 10 trials on Friday, De Loach covered 400 yards in :19.471, and his margin of victory was three-quarters of a length from sixth-fastest qualifier Memoryflash. The gelding was making his first start since April 6, when he ran eighth in the $212,450 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.

De Loach was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico. He was acquired by the Stennetts for $44,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs.

Raymond L. Gilder’s Tuscan Redd, the second-fastest qualifier, won the first trial by a half of a length from seventh-fastest qualifier Hard To Be Blue. Joe Badilla Jr. rode gelded son of Jesse James Jr and 2009 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Alice K White for trainer Jackie Riddle.

Gilder purchased Tuscan Redd for $32,000 from breeder MJ Farms at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale.

Third-fastest qualifier Girlonthego won the last trial by a head from odds-on favorite and fourth-fastest qualifier Chamiso James. A $20,000 buy from breeder Terry Lane at 2013 New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale, the daughter of Man On The Move was ridden by Jaime Leos and prepped by Juan M. Gonzalez for owners Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez.
