JLS Mr Bigtime Is Fastest All American Futurity Qualifier
RSS Feeds Monday, August 23, 2010

JLS Mr Bigtime, a homebred gelding racing for JLS Speedhorse Ranch Inc. of Opelousas, Louisiana, won the 13th of 20 All American Futurity (G1) trials on Thursday and posted the fastest qualifying time for the $2,050,000 final on September 6.

Saddled by Darrel Soileau and ridden by Jacky Martin, JLS Mr Bigtime covered 440 yards in :21.220 while defeating sixth-fastest qualifier Episode Of Fire by 1 ½ lengths. The victory was his fourth in six races and increased his earnings to $93,329.

JLS Mr Bigtime was making his first start since July 10, when he ran second in the 350-yard, $375,700 Lee Berwick Memorial Louisiana-Bred Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs. The gelding is one of 15 winners from 42 starters sired by freshman sire Bigtime Favorite, a stakes-winning 8-year-old son of Chicks Beduino who ran second in the 2004 Texas Classic (G1) and Sam Houston (G1) futurities.

JLS Mr Bigtime is also the first starter foaled by his dam, the winning Osceola Warrior mare Psalmist. The 9-year-old mare was a finalist in the $141,750 Delta Downs Louisiana Breeders’ Derby (RG2) in 2004, and she is a half/full sister to Perry Story, a filly by Mr Jess Perry who ran second in the 2005 AQHA Oklahoma Derby Challenge (G3) at Blue Ribbon Downs.

Second-fastest qualifier Cuz IBA Okey won the 12th heat by a nose from fourth-fastest qualifier Make Me Fly. The black gelding by champion Okey Dokey Dale races for Wesley Lindsey of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, and he is a half brother to three stakes winners, including 2009 Heritage Place Derby (G1) winner and Oklahoma region high-point 3-year-old gelding Cuz Eye Said.

The All American Futurity is New Mexico's richest horse race and the world's richest Quarter Horse race.
