Ketel Won Gelding is Fastest Shue Fly Qualifier

An Absolut Diamond, a homebred gelding by Ketel Won racing for Sandy Farris, Marc Jungers, and Lisa McMinn, won the last of five Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) trials at Sunland Park on Friday and posted the fastest qualifying time for the January 5 final.

Ridden by Salvador Martinez for trainer Mike Joiner, An Absolute Diamond covered 400 yards in :19.003 while defeating third-fastest qualifier One Blazin Kimbo by a half of a length. The victory was his second in five starts, and it increased his earnings to $27,050.

An Absolut Diamond was coming off of a third-place finish in a 400-yard entry-level allowance race at Zia Park on November 20.

Second-fastest qualifier Krazy Good won the second heat by a half of a length from fifth-fastest qualifier Jess Rueben James. A homebred gelding by Ketel Won, Krazy Good has two of three races and has banked $24,710 for owner Bauer Farms LLC.
