Rita Danley's Roll Bloomers Roll, a homebred chestnut daughter of Roll Hennessy Roll, rallied to win Saturday's fillies division of the $75,000-added Copper Top Futurity (R) for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park.
Ridden by Vicente Grajeda for trainer Fred Danley, Roll Bloomers roll closed off of the fractions of :21.75 and :45.47 set by 3-5 favorite Miss Bullette and Bev's Fast Lane and stopped the timer in :52.09 for 4 ½ furlongs. Her winning margin was 1 ¼ lengths from Miss Bullette.
Roll Bloomers Roll is one of three stakes winners sired by Roll Hennessy Roll, an 11-year-old son of Hennessy who won three stakes as a 2-year-old in 2002: the $125,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes (G3) at Hollywood Park, and the $36,227 Los Nino Stakes and $64,885 Ruidoso Thoroughbred Futurity at Ruidoso Downs.
Roll Hennessy Roll is a half brother to three stakes winners, including Grade 3 winner Sing Baby Sing and Value Plus, the runner-up in longshot Friends Lake's 2004 Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park. To date, the stallion has sired the earners of more than $858,000 from 44 starters. He stands for a $4,000 fee at Fred and Linda Alexander's A & A Ranch at Anthony, New Mexico
Roll Bloomers Roll's dam is Gold Bloomers, a winning 13-year-old daughter of the Timeless Moment stallion Gilded Time.
The winner's share of the $125,166 Copper Top purse increased Roll Bloomers Roll's bankroll to $64,783. The filly was 18 days removed from a second-place finish to Bev's Fast Lane in her Copper Top trial, which marked her career debut.
Sent to post at 27-1, Roll Bloomers Roll was the longest shot in the field of nine, and she returned a $57 win mutuel. The filly teamed with Miss Bullette for a $144.50 ($1) exacta. Worth A Pot Full ran third, 1 ½ lengths behind the winner, to complete a $893.90 ($1) trifecta.
Bev's Fast Lane, Haylee's Move, Rio Fresco, Ms Valid Kisses, Micaela, and Smoky Road completed the order of finish. Betsy D Cat was scratched.
A 4 3/4-length winner of her trial as the 14-10 choice, Miss Bullette is a homebred Roll Hennessy Roll filly campaigned by Bobby Yates, Davis Moore, and trainer Todd Fincher. Foaled by the winning 9-year-old In Excessive Bull mare Miss Set N Bull, Miss Bullette has earned $31,033 from one win in two outs.
Worth A Pot Full is a gray or roan daughter of Ghostly Moves and Pot Of Concern, an unraced 14-year-old daughter of the Broad Brush stallion Concern. A $3,500 purchase at last year's New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at Ruidoso Downs, the filly has won one of three races and has banked $32,170 for her owners, Robert F. Haynesworth and Sue H. May, and her race record includes a two-length victory in a 2-furlong state-bred maiden sprint at Sunland on March 5.
