Rogers Farms’ Tizsosexy outran his 15-1 odds to win Sunday’s one-mile, $50,000 SunRay Park and Casino Handicap for 3-year-olds.
Trained by Gerald Richards and ridden by Enrique Garcia, Tizsosexy defeated Cheatin A Little by 3 ½ lengths while stopping the timer in 1:36.95. The victory was the bay Tizbud gelding’s second in six starts and first since he was claimed by his current connections for $10,000 at Sunland Park on April 9.
Tizsosexy was bred in California by Pamela Ziebarth, and the gelding became the first stakes winner from 15 starters sired by Tizbud, an 11-year-old son of Cee’s Tizzy who won the $250,000 California Cup Classic Stakes (R) at Santa Anita in 2003. A full brother to three stakes winners, including two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner and 2000 Horse of the Year Tiznow, Tizbud has sired the earners of more than $118,700 from three crops. He stands for a $3,000 fee at Harris Farms in Coalinga, California.
Tizsosexy is also the first stakes winner foaled by his dam, the unraced 9-year-old Western Fame mare Zero To Sexy. The gelding’s third dam, the winning Quack mare Petite Maid, produced 11 winners from 13 starters, including Lucky Rebeau, a stakes-winning colt by Lord Rebeau who ran second in the 1986 Budweiser Tampa Bay Derby (G3) in Florida.
A 1969 foal who died in ’78, Petite Maid was a half sister to Protect Yourself, a colt by Lord Rebeau who won two stakes in 1985, including the Longacres Derby (G3) in the state of Washington.
The $30,000 winner’s share of the SunRay Park and Casino Handicap increased Tizsosexy’s bankroll to $40,997. The gelding broke his maiden on February 27, as he won a one-mile, $12,500 maiden claimer at Sunland Park by a half of a length.
Tizsosexy returned a $33 win mutuel and teamed with Cheatin A Little, a 14-1 longshot, for a ($2) exacta return of $214.60. Malibu Mystic, 7-5 favorite Haitian Hero, One’s Own Accord, Royal Hay Patch, and Mr Timberman completed the order of finish.
A California-bred gelding by Calkins Road, Cheatin A Little earned $11,000 for his owner, Sally Porter of Palisade, Colorado. Cheatin A Little was coming off of a third-place finish in a $20,000 claiming sprint at Turf Paradise on April 18.
