Mine That Bird to Appear at SunRay Park
RSS Feeds Monday, June 5, 2017
Mine That Bird, the upset winner of the 2009 Kentucky Derby (G1) at Churchill Downs, will be at SunRay Park in Farmington, New Mexico, June 17-18.

Mine That Bird, who currently resides in Roswell, New Mexico, will be reunited with his trainer, Chip Woolley, and parade on the track during SunRay’s racing program on both days. Woolley is the only New Mexico-based trainer to win the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of Thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown. Fans in attendance both days will receive a free autographed photo of Woolley, a resident of nearby Bloomfield.

Mine That Bird’s popularity resulted in a movie about his life. The movie, titled “50-to-1,” was released in 2014 and was produced and directed by Jim Wilson, who also produced the Academy Award-winning film “Dances With Wolves.”

During his racing career, Mine That Bird was owned by Dr. Leonard Blach of Buena Suerte Equine and Mark Allen of the Double Eagle Ranch. Calvin Borel rode him to victory in the Kentucky Derby.
