Miracle Snow Breaks Stakes Record in Lineage Quarter Horse Championship
RSS Feeds Sunday, August 26, 2012
Miracle Snow, a homebred 8-year-old gelding by Dean Miracle racing for Melvin and Mary Neugebauer of Manzanola, Colorado, broke the stakes record in Sunday's $50,000 Lineage Quarter Horse Championship (RG3), one of 11 races run on the Lineage Day program for New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Saddled by Wes Giles and ridden by J. Martin Bourdieu, Miracle Snow covered 400 yards in :19.290, earning a 103 speed index and breaking by 7/1000ths of a second the stakes record set by Gotta Get in 2007, the year he was voted AQHA champion aged gelding. Miracle Snow's winning margin was a neck from In Famous Caper, who after a stewards' inquiry was disqualified from second and placed fourth.

Miracle Snow began his career in 2006. He has won three stakes, all during Lineage Day cards, including the '07 Hard Twist Stakes (RG3) and the 2010 Lineage Quarter Horse Championship.

“He's a horse who just loves to work,” said Giles. “We don't overdo it with him, and it's paid off. He's eight years old, but he still loves the game.”

A total of 2,461 fans attended the Lineage Day program. Handle reached $229,750, which was 3 percent higher than last year's Lineage Day handle of $222,617.

Below is a summary of all Lineage Day races. Complete coverage will be featured in the next issue of the New Mexico Horse Breeder magazine.
