Breaking sharply from post 10, Miss Chicks Vision led at every call en route to a three-quarter length victory in Saturday's $85,000 Firecracker Quarter Horse Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-old fillies at SunRay Park.
Miss Chicks Vision is a gray daughter of Chicks A Blazin racing for SM Cattle Export Co. of Socorro, Texas, and Jaime Dominguez. Prepped by Roberto Sanchez and ridden for the first time in a race by Vicente Grajeda, the filly went 400 yards in :19.43 and earned a 94 speed index.
Miss Chicks Vision was bred by Mike Abraham. Her sire, Chicks A Blazin, is a winning 18-year-old stallion by the late Chicks Beduino who ran second in Run Em Up's 1995 West Texas Futurity (G1) at Sunland Park.
Chicks A Blazin has sired the earners of more than $10.3 million, and his starters include Blazin N Shakin, an earner of $635,335 whose 10 wins in 16 races include the last two runnings of the New Mexico Fillies & Mares Championship (RG2) at Zia Park, and DPI Good Boy, the winner of the $342,469 Shue Fly Stakes (RG10 at Sunland Park in 2008.
Owned by Abraham, Chicks A Blazin stands for a $2,500 fee at W.L. Mooring's Double L Farm at Bosque, New Mexico.
Miss Chicks Vision's dam, Sables Vision, is a winning 15-year-old daughter of the L' Natural (TB) stallion Raise A Secret. Her second dam, Black Sable, was a stakes winner at Bay Meadows in 1979.
Miss Chicks Vision traces back to her fourth dam, 1961 AQHA co-champion 2-year-old filly Bunny's Bar Maid. The filly's fifth dam, Black Easter Bunny, won 21 races from 1951-56 and was the champion sophomore filly in '52.
The $51,000 winner's share of the Firecracker Stakes purse increased Miss Chicks Vision's bankroll to $120,485. The Firecracker represented her first start since October 16, when she ran seventh, 5 ¼ lengths behind winner Moro Moon, in a New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) trial at Zia Park.
Miss Chicks Vision has won two of six races, and her stakes resume includes a second-place finish to Streak Of Sixes in last year's 300-yard, $284,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
U R A Fury Lady, the 7-2 favorite, ran second and was followed by De Genuine Queen, Hollywood Caliente, By By Corona, Snow Regard, Rollex, Posies First Thought, Sentenced To Fame, and BG Jungle Fever.
A homebred bay daughter of Furyofthewind, U R A Fury Lady has earned $73,730 from two wins in nine starts for her owner, Ronald Ulibarri. Last year, the filly scored a half-length victory in the 400-yard, $71,483 New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.
De Genuine Queen finished 1 ¼ lengths behind Miss Chicks Vision. The Genuine Strawfly filly, who was claimed by owner Santa Fe Horse Racing by Carrillo's LLC for $6,250 on May 21, has banked $34,501 from two wins in seven outs. Of De Genuine Queen's total bankroll, $24,400 has been earned since the claim.
