RSS Feeds Wednesday, August 01, 2012

A total of 409 horses – 365 yearlings and 44 broodmares – have been consigned to the August 17-18 New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at the Ruidoso Downs Sale Pavilion.

The sale will begin with the Quarter Horse yearling portion, which drew 225 consignments, on Friday, August 17. The sale continues with the Thoroughbred yearling and Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse broodmare portion the following day. The sale begins each day after the close of the live racing card at nearby Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.

Twenty-nine yearlings have been approved for the select portion of the Thoroughbred session, which will kick off the sale on August 18. R.D. Hubbard's Crystal Springs Farm of Tularosa has seven yearlings consigned to the select portion, followed by Weatherly Horse Farm of Anthony, Yellow Rose Farm of Albuquerque, and Mesa Vista Stud of Raton with four apiece.

The leading consignor, Double LL Farms of Bosque, has 70 yearlings consigned to the sale, 64 of whom are Quarter Horses. Topping the list of Double LL consignments are 34 yearlings sired by First Moonflash, a Grade 1 winner and the AQHA champion aged stallion in 2009.

A & A Ranch of Anthony and MJ Farms of Veguita have consigned 38 and 30 horses (including broodmares), respectively, to the sale. A & A's yearling consignment is topped by 23 Thoroughbreds, including nine by the Grade 2-winning Artax stallion Diabolical.

A & A's five Quarter Horse yearlings include four by Gonna Ro Sham Bo, a graded stakes winning son of Real Runaway and the sire of Gonna Cha Cha, the winner of Sunday's $395,028 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs.

MJ Farms' consignments are all yearlings, 29 Quarter Horse and two Thoroughbreds.
