Moro Moon is Fastest New Mexico Cup Futurity Qualifier
RSS Feeds Saturday, October 16, 2010

Valle Guadiana Corporation’s Moro Moon on Saturday posted the fastest qualifying time for the October 31 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park.

Ridden by Tony Guymon for trainer Juan Gonzalez, Moro Moon won the first of five trials by 1 ¼ lengths while going 400 yards in :19.458. The gray colt has earned $38,445 from two wins in five starts, and he placed third in the August 1, $351,963 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs.

Moro Moon was bred by Dosi and Norma Alvarez, and he  is one of 69 winners from 150 starters sired by Sixes Royal, a Grade 1-winning son of Royal Quick Dash whose three crops have earned more than $2.4 million.

Moro Moon’s dam, Dash Ta Moon, is a 7-year-old daughter of Dash Ta Fame who won the 2007 Lubbock Stakes (G2) at Zia Park and was the ’06 New Mexico region’s high-point 3-year-old filly. Dash Ta Moon is a half sister to ’09 AQHA champion aged stallion First Moonflash.

Second-fastest qualifier Streak Of Sixes won the fourth heat by 1 ¼ lengths in :19.507. The sorrel Sixes Royal filly races for Pete and Marjorie Gallegos of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico, and she has won two stakes this year, including the April 11, $283,555 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG1) at Sunland Park.

Gonzalez saddled five New Mexico Cup Futurity finalists, including the three fastest qualifiers.
