RSS Feeds Tuesday, May 30, 2017
Stakes winners Moneys A Maker and Daddys Blushing are among the 116 New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s 350-yard Mountain Top Futurity (RG3) trials at Ruidoso Downs.

A gray son of Sixes Royal trained by Cynthia Gonzalez for owner Enrique Barrera, Moneys A Maker is one of two entries supplemented to the trials by their connections for $15,000. The gelding has earned $180,542 from three outs, and his two wins include a neck victory in the April 8, 300-yard New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.

Moneys A Maker will be ridden by Mauro Salcedo from the rail post in the 11th of 12 trials.

Daddys Blushing, a $14,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, will be making his first-ever start in New Mexico in the sixth heat. Trained by Jackie Riddle for owner Gary W. Hartstack, the Big Daddy Cartel gelding has won both of his outs, including the 330-yard, $48,000 Sam Houston Juvenile Invitational Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on April 29, and he has banked $16,308.

Daddys Blushing is a half brother to two stakes winners, including graded stakes winner Junior June Bug. The gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon.

The other supplemental entry, Flash Moonfire, races for David G. Valdez of Odessa, Texas, from the barn of trainer Juan Esquivel. A $27,000 purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the gelded son of champion First Moonflash is coming off of a fourth-place finish, one length behind Moneys A Maker, in the New Mexican Spring Futurity.

Flash Moonfire is the first foal produced by the stakes-winning Walk Thru Fire mare Required Fire, and he has earned $30,749 from two outs. Oscar Cordova will ride the gelding from post 6 in the second trial.

Moneys A Maker’s eight opponents in the 11th trial include Tempting Star Gazer, a $23,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. Trained by Wes Giles for owners Jose Espinosa and Jill Giles, the First Moonflash gelding is coming off of a third-place finish, a half of a length behind Moneys A Maker, in the New Mexican Spring Futurity.

Cipriano Vidana will ride Tempting Star Gazer from post 2.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the June 17, $392,255. Mountain Top Futurity final.
