RSS Feeds Monday, May 2, 2016
Trial winners My Mirage and Blooming Heat are among the 10 New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds entered back in Tuesday’s 4 1/2-furlong, $110,000-added Copper Top Futurity (R) at Sunland Park.

The 3-1 morning-line favorite, Blooming Heat drew the rail post and will be ridden by Ry Eikleberry for owner Fred Danley, who also trains the homebred daughter of Southwestern Heat. Blooming Heat made her debut with a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length win in the first of two trials on April 17.

Blooming Heat’s dam, the winning 11-year-old Lesters Boy mare Blooming Pleasure, ran second in three futurities in 2007, including the 5 1/2-furlong, $122,641 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity (R) at Ruidoso Downs. Blooming Pleasure is a half sister to multiple stakes winner Roll Bloomers Roll.

My Mirage is a homebred Diabolical filly trained by Dick Cappelucci for Bauer Farm LLC. My Mirage made her debut with a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length victory as the 11-10 favorite in the second trial.

My Mirage is the first starter produced by the winning 12-year-old Forestry mare Iron Butterfly. The filly drew post 8 and will be ridden by Ken Tohill.

Danley will also be represented in the Copper Top final by Happy Hennessy, a homebred chestnut son of Roll Hennessy Roll. The runner-up to My Mirage in the second trial, the gelding is a half brother to multiple stakes winners I Am Lesters Gal and Happy Me. Happy Hennessy drew post 4 and will be ridden by Luis Ramon Rodriguez.

Other contenders include Ignored, a homebred gelding by The Way Home trained by Todd Fincher for owners Steve Prather and Bessie Prather. The runner-up to Blooming Heat in the first trial, Ignored is out of the winning Out Of Place mare Spectacular Place and is a full brother to multiple 2-year-old stakes winner My Homey and a half to 2-year-old stakes winner Quinton’s Place.

Ignored will be ridden by Ruby Gonzalez from post 10.

The complete lineup for the Copper Top Futurity, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds -- Blooming Heat (Ry Eikleberry), 3-1; Forgivnessis PVR (Francisco Duran), 8-1; Silver Command (Frank Reyes), 12-1; Happy Hennessy (Luis Ramon Rodriguez), 6-1; Miss Marilynn Rae (Miguel Fuentes Jr.), 15-1; She’s Charlita (Glen Murphy), 15-1; Whoop Whoop (Norberto Arroyo Jr.), 12-1; My Mirage (Ken Tohill), 5-1; Fire Squall (Elvin Gonzalez), 8-1; and Ignored (Ruby Gonzalez), 4-1.
