New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale Draws 362 Horses

A total of 362 yearlings – 226 Quarter Horses and 136 Thoroughbreds – have been consigned to the August 16-17 New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale at the Ruidoso Horse Sale Pavilion at Ruidoso Downs.

The sale will begin each day following live racing card at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack.

Leading consignor Double LL Farms Bosque, New Mexico, has consigned 94 yearlings to the sale, 73 of whom are Quarter Horses. The Quarter Horse consignment includes 31 yearlings by First Moonflash, the AQHA champion aged stallion in 2009.

Part of the Double LL consignment, the Jess A Chicks colt Love A Jess (Hip No. 189), is a half brother to two stakes winners, including multiple graded stakes winner First Blazin Love. Another member of the Double LL Quarter Horse consignment, the First Moonflash colt First Hot Flash (Hip No. 145), is a half brother to Grade 2 winner Heza Motor Scooter, the sire of Grade 1 winner and AQHA champion Rylees Boy.

A & A Ranch of Anthony, New Mexico, has consigned 39 yearlings to the sale, including 36 Thoroughbreds. Part of the A & A consignment, Margaret’s Legacy (Hip No. 260), is by Premeditation out of the stakes winning and Grade 3-placed Hay Halo mare Parting. The filly’s half brother, Attila’s Parting, won last year’s Totah Stakes (R) at SunRay Park.

Also from the A & A consignment is an unnamed dark bay or brown colt by the Artax stallion Diabolical (Hip No. 295). The colt is a half brother to Explosive Mine, the winner of the 2009 Copper Top Futurity ®2009 Copper Top Futurity (R) at Sunland Park.  

MJ Farms of Veguita, New Mexico, has consigned 35 Quarter Horses to the sale, including Flame Café (Hip No. 82). A sorrel daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Fighter On Fire, Flame Café is a half sister to AQHA champion Alice K White, Grade 1 winner and one-time 440-yard world record holder Kendall Jackson, and stakes winner Wilmon.

The yearling portions of the sale will be followed by a broodmare sale on Saturday night. Twenty mares have been consigned, including SM Whistle Britches (Hip No. 370), a 13-year-old daughter of Royal Quick Dash consigned by TNL Farm Inc. as agent for Denny and Carla Feerer. SM Whistle Britches has produced two stakes-placed runners, Dashin Tuxedo and Miss Tessmocker.

The New Mexico Filly and Mare Championship is one of two state-bred stakes and eight stakes scheduled for Wednesday’s third annual “Land of Enchantment” Day program at Zia Park. Post time for the first of 11 races is set for 12:15 p.m. (MST).
